Old Fashioned — One of the oldest American cocktails, the Old Fashioned grew out of the early Whiskey Cocktail, a simple mix of whiskey, sugar, bitters, and water. As more elaborate cocktail variations appeared in the 1800s, drinkers began asking for the original, old-fashioned style instead. Over time, that order became the classic Old Fashioned we know today.
